Bette S. Hamby

Mrs. Bette S. Hamby, age 78, of Social Circle passed away December 19, 2017.  She was born in Hardin, Montana on July 7, 1939 to Charles and Anna Sherod who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Hamby moved to Georgia with her family at age 15.  She graduated from Newton County High School in June of 1957 and married her husband, Dewey G. Hamby, Jr in July of that year.  The two were married for 57 years when Mr. Hamby preceded her in death in 2014.  She loved life and enjoyed writing, reading, watching TV, and loved music. She even played with Brenda Lee on the radio station here in Covington. Mrs. Hamby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She drove a school bus for 18 years and spent most of her life loving and raising her children.  Along with her husband she was also preceded in death by her son Charles Dewey Hamby in 1977.

Mrs. Hamby is survived by her children Bob and Sara Hamby, Doug and Angela Hamby and Patti McIntosh all of Social Circle, her grandchildren Jared, Montana, Parks, Simon, Noah, Luke and Anna, her great grandchildren Charlie and Davis, her sister and brother-in-law Bobbie and Paul Gilbert of Big Timber, Montana along with a host of other family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hamby will be held at 12 o’clock Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral  Home with Reverend Debbie Giles and Mr. Montana Hamby officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until funeral time on Friday prior to the service.  J.C.
