Darby J. Murphy

Mr. Darby J. Murphy, age 82, of Conyers passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018.  He was born December 19, 1935 in Carnesville, Georgia to JC and Sara Lucille Whitfield Murphy who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Murphy owned and operated American Exterminating Company for 45 years and also built houses for many years.  He was Santa Claus for thousands of children both young and old all over the southeast and handed out candy canes to everyone he came in contact with.  Mr. Murphy was always smiling and never met a stranger; he was a loving, husband, father, grandfather great grandfather and friend.  A Baptist by faith and a devoted Christian, Mr. Murphy was a longtime member of Cornish Mountain Baptist Church.  Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother JP “Doodle” Murphy.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife Joyce Harris Murphy his children Vicky Bankston and her husband Wayne of Covington, Cindi Adcock of Covington and Tracy Blount and her husband Chris of Covington his grandchildren Brandy, Autumn, Cory, Lori, Chasity, and Chase great grandchildren Keely, Ty, Gage, Cheyenne, Tate, Bentlee, KJ, Kingslee and Rhiannon his sisters and brother Doris Wooten, Sara Johnson, Charles Murphy and his wife Marianne, Betty Eavenson, Mary Ann Bobbitt, Linda Goeble, and Evelyn Eavenson along with a host of nieces, nephews other family and close friends. 

Funeral services for Mr. Murphy will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Barrett officiating.  Entombment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday February 13, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.  J.C.
