Dena (Mootz) Welch

Dena Marie Mootz Welch, age 53, of Social Circle Georgia, passed away suddenly at her home on May 12, 2018.  Dena was born on May 30, 1964 in Callicoon, New York to her parents Edwin and Ruth Mootz.  She was the older sister to Thomas Edwin Mootz.  Dena graduated from Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School in 1982 and continued her education, earning her degree at the University of Scranton in 1986.  Her accounting degree settled her in California where she worked at Baxter Healthcare as a Senior Accountant for approximately 25 years.  It was in California where she met her husband Richard Welch marrying on June 12, 1994.  She became the cherished step-mother to Lindsey and Chelsea Welch.  Wishing to return to the east coast, Dena and her husband recently moved to Georgia where was employed by Shire Pharmaceutical as a Senior Director of Finance Operations. Her hobbies were many, but she enjoyed outdoor activities most.  These included camping, hiking, boating, and biking.  Enjoying nature at its finest was a true delight to her.  Travel was also a passion she shared with her husband in every spare moment she could steal away.  Her beautiful step-grandchildren added a measure of pleasure and joy with the most magical of moments. 

Dena is survived by her husband Richard Welch of Georgia; her parents, Edwin and Ruth Mootz of Kenoza Lake; her brother and his wife, Thomas and Michelle Mootz of Kenoza Lake; her oldest stepdaughter and her husband, Lindsey and George Mendez Jr. of Georgia; her youngest stepdaughter and her husband, Chelsea and Sean Rea of California; her step-grandchildren, Audrey and Lillian Mendez and Ella, Bridget and Owen Rea.  She is also survived by her oldest nephew and his family, Nicholas and Helena-Rae Mootz and their daughter Jillian; and her younger nephew, Thomas Mootz,  all of Kenoza Lake.

A gathering of friends for Dena will be held from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Friday, May 18, 2018 at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home, 2157 East Street SE, Covington, GA 30014.
