Faye (Smith) Davis

Mrs. Faye Davis, age 77, a lifelong resident of Newton County passed away Monday, January 6, 2020.  She was born in Newton County on August 25, 1942 to J.C. and Gladys Owenby Smith who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Davis was a member of The Church at Covington.  She worked as a nurse and social worker in both Rockdale and Newton Counties.  She was a wonderful caregiver to all, and was affectionately known as “Nanny Faye” by her grandchildren.  Mrs. Davis enjoyed traveling to the mountains, and was a great bargain shopper.  She was preceded in death by her husband Guy Davis, her son Phillip Davis, and her daughter Sandra Coburn. 

Mrs. Davis is survived by her son Michael Davis and his wife Jenifer of Monticello, her daughters Nedra Gilstrap and her husband David of Covington, Melissa Davis of Covington, and Jamie Davis of Monticello her brother Tommy Smith and his wife Carolyn, her sisters Bonnie Ellington and her husband Joe, Clara Thacker and her husband Ashley, and Mary Brown and her husband Tom all of Covington.  She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild along with a host of other family and close friends.

Memorial services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the Chapel of J. C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Mrs. Dale Layfield officiating.  The family has selected J.C.
