Frank Cavola Obituary

Frank Cavola, age 95, passed away peacefully in his “home away from home” at the Benton House in Covington, GA, on August 1, 2018 where he had lived for the last 3.5 years.  He was well taken care of by the Benton House and Beacon (Memory Care) staff, the team of Visiting Angels for daily care, and the Longleaf Hospice team for the last month.  Ironically, this home away from home was Frank’s only other home since leaving Ventura, CA in February 2015 – his previous home since 1965.

Born on March 16, 1923, and a member of the “Greatest Generation”, Frank joined the Navy and was on a minesweeper in the Pacific Ocean during World War II.  He married Mom, Helen Cavola, in 1944, and they subsequently raised 5 boys.  By education, Frank was an electrical engineer and worked at Southern California Edison company for over 30 years.

Frank loved his immediate family, his extended family, and his many, many friends.  There was no stranger to Frank Cavola.  He and Mom loved to travel, they took their boys on many camping adventures, and later in life traveled to different countries with Mom and with relatives.  Then much later in life Frank traveled with Ron and Debi to his motherland, France and Italy, in two different trips along with a few Georgia dentists and their spouses.  He was also an avid golfer, and avid craftsman, and loved giving back to the community in so many ways.  He was also a longtime member of the College United Methodist Church in Ventura.  He coached Little League baseball and spent 25 years with his boys in the Indian Guides.

For those who knew Frank Cavola (Mr. Frank, as he was known at the Benton House), he was a great man with a very soft heart.  He was fun loving, jovial, and just a little bit talkative.

Frank Cavola is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Cavola, just shy of 63 years of married life, and three of his oldest sons, Richard, Randy and Russ.  Frank is survived by his sister, Lillian Cavola of California, his #4 and #5 sons, Ray and Ron respectively, and their spouses, Nina and Debi.  Frank has seven adult grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

A Gathering of Friends will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.
