Horace M. Bowden

Mr. Horace M. Bowden, age 72, of Covington passed away Friday, January 12, 2018.  He was born August 29, 1945 in Monroe to Forrest and Elizabeth Oliver Bowden who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Bowden grew up in Covington Mill and made his way around Covington and Newton County riding his Vespa Scooter.  That passion for riding continued throughout his life riding and enjoying motorcycles once having three in the garage at one time.  He enjoyed life and lived it surrounded by his family and friends; he loved to travel and people watch while on the beach.  Mr. Bowden was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He retired from Western Electric and AT&T in 1983 and started K&K Pools until retiring in 2016.  Horace loved to work and did so with a dedication to his customers and love for his workers. 

Mr. Bowden is survived by his wife Elaine Knight Bowden, his children Kim and Matt Gunnin and Kevin and Carrie Bowden, his grandchildren Cord Gunnin, Conner Gunnin, Mayson Bowden, Avery Bowden, and Danielle Roberts, his brother and sister-in-law Oliver and Beverly Bowden, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Johnny and Lynda Allen, his nieces and nephews Jana and Wyn Fuller and James and Julie Welch, Emma Floyd, Sara Floyd, Taylor Welch, Helen Welch, and Ellie Welch along with a host of other family and close friends.     

Funeral services for Mr. Bowden will be held at 11 o’clock Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Mr. Charlie Henderson officiating.  Interment will follow at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018.  J.C.
