Mrs. Loretta Parker, age 76, a lifelong resident of Newton County passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019. She was born May 29, 1943 in Atlanta to Jodie and Effie Varnum Edge who have preceded her in death. Loretta graduated Newton County High School and was a member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church. She loved cooking for her family, swimming at the Porterdale pool, dancing the “Jitterbug” and loved game shows. Loretta enjoyed socializing and loved to make everyone laugh. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Along with her parents, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly Ann Parker Vereen.
Mrs. Parker is survived by her husband, Jim Parker of Covington, son Kirk Douglas Parker (Collette) of Covington, her brothers, Bill Edge (Sylvia) and Wayne Edge (Brenda) of Covington, her grandchildren Maya Sunshine Vereen, Charlotte Jane Parker, Meredith Anne Parker along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parker will be held at 2 o’clock, Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Cato officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service. J.C.
