Lt. Col (Retired) William "Ike" Robertson Obituary

Lt. Col. (Retired) William Isaac “Ike” Robertson, age 79, of Covington passed away July 15, 2019.  He was born on June 14, 1940 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta to his parents William Pitts and Rebecca Wright Robertson who have preceded him in death.  Ike was a 1958 graduate of Newton County High School.  He was a 1962 graduate of North Georgia College with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physics. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army and served from 1968 to 1969 in Vietnam.  In 1974 Lt. Robertson graduated from Alabama A&M University with an MBA and in 1979 he graduated from Maryland University with a Bachelor’s Degree in German.  Ike retired from the Army in 1988 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  During his career he served at a variety of bases including Ft. Bliss, TX, Korea, Germany, and HQ Forscom Command at Ft. McPherson, GA.  Following his retirement Mr. Robertson was employed as a Transportation Mission Specialist with Dynamex/Atlanta in Kennesaw, GA for 22 years.  During that time, he and Mrs. Robertson, both natives of Newton County, returned to Covington in 2006.  Ike retired again in 2010 and since has enjoyed antiquing, collecting, and going to antique shows.  He also enjoyed skeet/trap shooting and pistol shooting with his daughter.  Mr. Ike Robertson was a friend to many and enjoyed spending time with them as well as his family.  Taco Tuesdays, poker nights, neighborhood get-togethers, blues music and guitar, were just a few of the things he treasured.  He not only loved people but he was an animal lover, he enjoyed spending time with the many dogs he raised over the years. 

Mr. Robertson is survived by his wife Bettye Jean Robertson, his daughters and son-in-law Monica and Michael Johnson, and Michelle Robertson, his grandchildren Miles Johnson, Marjorie Johnson, and Marshall Johnson his sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and Doug Keach.  His longtime best friends Paul and MirHea Fry his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marcia and Wayne Allen, Sandra Johnson, and Danny Johnson, his nephews Brian and Chris Keach, Marc and Mitch Allen, and Beau Johnson, along with several cousins, many friends, classmates, and neighbors also survive him.

Funeral services for Lt. Col. Robertson will be held at 11 o’clock Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Jack Lawson officiating.  Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Covington City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 18, 2019.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365 or to Newton County Animal Control, 210 Lower River Road, Covington, GA 30016.  J.C.
