Nancy Kate (Johnson) Mares

Mrs. Nancy Kate Johnson Mares, age 81, of Covington passed away Monday, March 12, 2018.  She was born in Garfield, Georgia on July 10, 1936 to David Crockett and Josie Lawrence Johnson who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Mares grew up in Portal, Georgia and graduated from Portal High School.  She went on to attend business school in Savannah and worked for many years as a comptroller for various automobile dealers around metro Atlanta.  She was a member of Gateway Community Church and adored spending time with her grandchildren.  Mrs. Mares was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, Mr. C.W. Mares.

She is survived by her sons Tommy Mares and his wife Molly of Louisville, Ohio and Mark Mares and his wife Kari of Smyrna, Georgia, her grandchildren Steven, Jr., Ivy, Josie, Mylie, and Noble, along with her brother David Johnson and his wife Lena of Appling, Georgia, her sister Emmie Jo Coats and her husband Ronnie of Stockbridge.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mares will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend John Pearrell officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.  J.C.
