Ralph Johnson

Mr. Ralph Johnson, age 89, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away at his home Saturday, January 26, 2019.  He was born in Covington to Ermine and Josephine Cartledge Johnson who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Johnson was a general contractor and built homes all over Newton County and the surrounding counties as well.  He was a strong man of faith and was known as “Preacher Ralph” by many who knew him. 

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Mrs. Doris Johnson, his children Ernest and Carol Johnson of Covington, Caroline and Donnie Glow of Monticello, Nancy Allen of Covington, Sharon Pounds of Grayson, James and Ruth Dennison Johnson of Covington, and Myra Yarbrough of Covington.  He also has 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren along with his brother and sister-in-law Luther and Johnnie Ruth Johnson of Covington who survive him. 

Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Dr. John Pearrell officiating.  Interment will follow at New Covington Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00PM until 2:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.
