Richard D. Tyson, Sr.

Mr. Richard D. Tyson, Sr., age 77 of Social Circle passed away Monday, August 06, 2018.  He was born October 9, 1940 in Atlanta to Thetus and Mary Bingham Tyson who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Tyson spent his career in the United States Air Force retiring after 20 years of service as a Staff Sargent.  He was married for 27 years to Gwen Tyson who has preceded him in death; the two shared an interest in Native American history and often traveled to Cherokee, North Carolina.  Mr. Tyson made totem poles, enjoyed woodworking and together with his wife they enjoyed fishing.  Along with his parents and his wife he was also preceded in death by his sister Geraldine Clack.  Mr. Tyson is survived by his children David Tyson and Valerie Gentry his step children Joanne Rogers (Hayden), Lori Hudson (James), Sam Lamont (Susie) his grandchildren Sharina, Richard, Heather, Christopher, and Aaron his brother Wayne Tyson and numerous great grandchildren.  Funeral services for Mr. Tyson will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Social Circle City Cemetery.
