Shirley (Chatham) Dorsey

Mrs. Shirley Dorsey, age 81 of Covington passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018.  She was born February 28, 1937 in Covington.  Mrs. Dorsey grew up in the Livingston Community of Newton County and was a member of County Line Baptist Church. She was a loving, kind, and sweet woman who loved children and especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Dorsey lived in Passaic, New Jersey for many years raising her family there and returned to Covington in 1989 after the death of her husband Ray Dorsey.  She was also preceded in death by her mother Cassie Kitchens Poehler along with her brother Winfred Lanier “Bud” Chatham and her sister Edna Wilkerson.

Mrs. Dorsey is survived by her daughters Cathy Shetler and Gloria Freeman, her granddaughter Danielle Shetler all of Covington, her sister Cathy Parker of Conyers, her son-in-law Edward Shetler along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorsey will be held at 2 o’clock Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend J. Clifton Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at Stewart Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service.  J.C.
