William Clyde Weldon

December 4, 1922 ~ January 24, 2019 (age 96)

Mr. William Clyde Weldon, Sr. of Conyers, GA, passed away on January 24, 2019, at age 96. He is survived by his wife of nearly 76 years, Ruth Sherwood Weldon. A native of Newton County, Georgia, he was the son of William Donald Weldon and Ethel Nail Weldon. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brother, John Weldon, brother, W.D. Weldon, and sister, Moselle Capes.

Mr. Weldon’s most lasting legacy is the wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend he was. He was strong, dedicated and faithful to his family and a true friend.  He always beamed when speaking of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could always be counted on by family as well as friends and was known during his career in the automobile industry as someone who was completely trustworthy and loyal. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and afterward worked his way up from the service department at Central Chevrolet in Atlanta to partnership of Star Chevrolet in Griffin, Ga.

Besides his loving wife he is survived by his son, William Clyde Weldon, Jr. (Bill) and wife, Cheryl, daughter, Donna Lewis, whose husband Michael preceded him in death, grandchildren, Jason Lewis (Chandra), Mark Lewis (Jennifer), Jessica Cox (Edward), William Clyde Weldon, III (Will & Becky), Elizabeth Weldon and Stephanie Weldon (fiancé Jeff Kochy).  Great grandchildren Katherine Lewis, Caleb Lewis, Madison Lewis, Elli Cox, Carolyn Weldon and William Clyde Weldon, IV (Liam).  He also is survived by sister in law, Virginia Brown and many nieces and nephews.

His family and friends will so miss the enthusiastic welcome we always received from him as we entered his home. We will miss hearing him talk about his love of his yard work which he continued to do up until his last hour on earth, and we will always remember the determination and faith in the Lord that sustained his caring for his wife and anyone who needed him.  As his soul enters heaven he is surely welcomed by the words, “well done my good and faithful servant.”
