Alice Virgina (Brown) Smith

Mrs. Alice “Virginia” Smith, age 63, born and raised in Covington, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 17, 2023 at her home in Monticello, GA. She was born on November 16, 1959 to her parents, Lawson and Dorothy Brown of Covington whom both preceded her in death. Virginia grew up in Covington, GA and was a graduate of Newton County High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank “Hank” Smith in 2003 and 4 of her brothers and sisters. “Nana” as she was called by everyone, was an avid reader and dearly loved her Grandchildren, Halloween and scratching her Lotto tickets. She had a tradition of calling everyone on their birthdays early in the morning and singing horribly to them and no matter their age, all the grandkids received bubble bath for Christmas.

Nana is survived by her daughters Jennifer Smith (Dane) of Monticello and Rebecca Ashworth of Monticello and her honorary daughter Samantha Barr(Chauncey) of Covington; her siblings Thomas Brown, Willie Brown and Peggy Brown of Covington, her grandchildren Makayla Hawkins of Monticello, Michelle Hawkins (Preston Reid) of Cocoa Beach, Fl, William Ashworth of Monticello, Tiffany Ashworth (Brooke Mobley) of Ladson, SC, Andrew Smith (Kayle) of Covington, GA, Brandon Smith (Shannon Gahwiler) of Covington, Ga, Emily Thomas (Rusty) of Winder, Ga and Lacie Benton (Cameron) of Covington, GA. Along with host of precious great grandchildren and other family members, and close friends whom she cared for very much. A graveside service for Mrs. Smith will be held at 6:00pm Friday, September 22, 2023 at New Covington Cemetery. J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
