Mr. Allen "Al" James Horton passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on April 3, 1939, Allen led a life marked by devotion, service, and the love of his family and community.

Allen is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Edna Mae Horton, who was his partner in life and in faith. Together, they raised a wonderful family, including their children Kim Horton, Mary Carl (Tony), John Churchill, Sr. and Michael Manning. His memory will be held dear by his grandchildren Nate Horton (Darryn), Brian David (Kellie), Scott David (Jean), Tracy Evans, John Churchill, Jr. and Patricia McCort (Alex).  Allen was also the proud great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

He is also remembered by his brother Raymond Horton, his son-in-law Terrell Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Allen was preceded in death by his parents Albert Nelson Henry Horton and Tessie Kathryn Horton, his stepchildren Aunetti Smith, Ricky Churchill, Daryl Ray Manning, and his sister-in-law Shirley Horton.

Allen's life was a testament to his unwavering faith. For over 46 years, he served the Lord as a Pastor, touching countless lives with his wisdom and compassion.

In addition to his pastoral work, Allen proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1961 and in the Reserve from 1961-1964 where he earned a medal for Good Conduct. His dedication to service was a core value that he carried throughout his life.

Allen's interests extended beyond his service to the church and nation. He was the 10th degree black belt Grand Master of Horton Pangai Noon Self Defense and was involved in the martial arts from 1958 until his passing in 2026. Through this discipline, he instilled confidence, strength, and self-respect in his students.

Allen was recognized for his 20 years of outstanding service and dedication to the Powersville Opry and was inducted to the Atlanta Country Music Hall of fame in 2019.

His life was an embodiment of strength, resilience, and love. Allen "Al" James Horton will be remembered not only for his accomplishments and the roles he played but more so for the warmth, kindness, and unwavering principles he exhibited every day. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
