Amy Jo (Simmons) Stancil

Mrs. Amy Jo Stancil passed away on June 21, 2026, at the age of 58. She was born on February 6, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and steady commitment to the people and responsibilities she held dear. She was a loving wife, a cherished sister, a loyal friend, and a woman whose presence brought warmth and strength to those around her.

Amy was the beloved wife of James “Big Jim” Stancil, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. Their life together reflected a deep and enduring partnership built on love, respect, and companionship. She is also survived by her mother, Marion Simmons, her siblings, Jill Perloff, Carla Dias, and Buddy Simmons, her niece, Bailee Jones, along with other family members and many close friends who will remember her with affection and gratitude. The bonds she formed throughout her life were meaningful and lasting, and she remained a steady source of support and encouragement to those who knew her best.

Amy attended Georgia State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Her education helped shape the path of a lifelong career in public service. She worked as a government accountant throughout her professional life, approaching her work with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility. She was respected for her careful attention to detail and her dependable nature, qualities that served her well in her career and in her daily life. Amy took pride in doing her work well, and she carried that same sense of purpose into all that she did.

Outside of her professional life, Amy found joy in the simple and meaningful things that made a house feel like home and life feel full. She loved her dogs, Maizy and Tinker, and cared for them with the same tenderness she showed to the people she loved. She also found happiness in her garden and her flowers, where she could spend quiet time nurturing beauty and watching things grow. Her love of the outdoors and her appreciation for the small pleasures of life reflected her gentle spirit and her ability to find contentment in everyday moments.

Amy also treasured the friendships she built over the years. Her group of friends enjoyed spending time together and doing things such as running, whether for fun or for a benefit. These shared experiences brought laughter, companionship, and lasting memories. She valued friendship deeply and was the kind of person who made others feel welcome, appreciated, and included. Those who spent time with her will remember her easy conversation, her loyalty, and the genuine care she showed in every relationship.

A gathering of friends to celebrate Amy's life will be on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make donations to the Humane Society of Morgan Co. https://humanemorgan.org/ in Amy Jo's name.
