Mrs. Bertha Dial Cason, age 84, a lifelong resident of Oxford passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023. She was born June 11, 1939 in Oxford to her parents Starr and Eva Sockwell Dial. Mrs. Cason grew up in “Dialtown” and graduated from Newton County High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at White’s Department Store and as the secretary for Gum Creek Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Cason loved music, playing the piano and organ, singing, cooking, and most importantly, her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Cason and 6 of her brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Cason is survived by her daughters Valerie Galloway (Jim) of Oxford, and Allison Rowell (Eric) of Lawrenceville; her grandchildren Cason, Carter, and Tyler; her brother Clayton “Skeet” Dial of Oxford; her sister-in-law Myrna Cason of Oxford; along with her numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends all of whom she loved very much.
Graveside services will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Oxford Historical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
