This obituary was lovingly provided by her family….
Bonnie Gail Cowan went to her heavenly home on June 24, 2024. She fiercely loved all her family and friends, but nothing brought her more joy than her daughters, all her grandchildren and her two crazy cats Belle and Lucky. She was born on May 28, 1955 at Porterdale Hospital, and was raised in Conyers, Georgia off Old Covington Highway at the old family homeplace surrounded by many family members living within walking distance. This upbringing instilled “family first” in Bonnie from a very young age and she always put her family first. She was very active at Rockdale County High School being a member of the drill team and president of FBLA before becoming a Rockdale Bulldog graduate in 1973. She went on to start her career at Dekalb Federal Savings and Loan, then later joining the Mainstreet Bank family, and finishing out her career working with countless students at Oxford College of Emory University for the last 20 years. Bonnie was involved with several local churches while attending with her children and their families throughout the years. She will be remembered by many seniors at Canaan Baptist Church while helping serve at Sunshine Fellowship functions and riding the bus on many excursions, and she loved homecomings at Newton Baptist Church.
She loved going on family trips to the beach, spending time with grandkids as she always tried to make every event, crafting with the cricket making treasures for the whole family, sewing numerous curtains, pillows, and bedspreads, cooking the favorites for family cookouts…..Bonnie just loved life and tried her best to make the most of every moment.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Don L. and Elizabeth Wilson Cowan. She is survived by her daughters Jessica B. Jeffries (Daniel) of Monticello and Melissa B. Cook (Nathan) of Bethlehem; her grandchildren Andrew, Evan, Ava, Ellie and Annie; her brothers Thomas Owens, Donald L. Cowan and Ronnie H Cowan (Angie), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Bonnie will be held at Newton Baptist Church in Covington, GA on June 30th with visitation prior to service from 2-4 PM with service following at 4PM in the sanctuary with Pastor Thomas W. Satterfield officiating.
Bonnie was a liver transplant survivor and the family ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Liver Foundation to help many other patients in need as they graciously helped her on her journey.
