Brenda “Little Old MawMaw” Yates, age 61, of Covington, passed away on June 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the many cherished memories she created throughout her life.
Born on July 18, 1964, in Covington, Brenda was the beloved daughter of the late Velma Johnson. She lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a deep love for the people who were blessed to know her. Brenda was a loving and kind woman whose gentle spirit touched her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing her path. She carried herself with warmth and grace, and she will be remembered for the comfort she gave, the laughter she shared, and the steady presence she offered to those she loved.
Brenda’s greatest joy in life was her family and the many baby’s she kept over the years. She especially treasured her grandbabies, who brought her immeasurable happiness and filled her heart with pride. Her love for them was unwavering, and she found delight in every moment spent with them. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Albert Yates, and a loving mother and grandmother whose family meant everything to her. She is survived by her children, Winston Cable and Amber Pickens, Amanda Stewart and Steven, and Garrett Yates and Taylor. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Walker, Brayden, Ivy, and Jameson, who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
Brenda is also survived by her brother, Johnny Ozburn and Jenni, and her sister, Hazel Ray and Steve, along with numerous other family members and many friends who will deeply miss her presence. Her family will remember her for the way she loved without hesitation and for the strength she showed in both ordinary days and difficult times. She had a special way of making others feel welcome and cared for, and her memory will remain a source of comfort to those who knew her best.
Those who knew Brenda will remember her as a woman of simple but profound faith. She was loving, kind, and steadfast in the relationships she held dear. Her life was a reflection of the importance she placed on family, and her legacy will live on through the generations she helped shape with her affection and example. Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she gave so freely will continue to echo in all those she lovingly considered her baby’s.

Funeral services for Brenda will be held at 2 o’clock Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at High Point Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00PM until 2:00PM prior to the service.
