Carrol “Lawson” Moss was called home by his Jesus on March 5, 2021. Whether you knew him as Lawson, C.L., Moosie, or Papa, you knew one of the greatest men that ever lived. He loved big and took care of those he loved. He was strong in every way. He was a fixer of broken things whether human, wooden, or mechanical. He loved to dance, sing funny tunes, and laugh. Lawson loved the Lord and wanted to make sure everyone he talked to knew Jesus as their Savior. He read his Bible every morning before he stood on his deck to wave his family off to school and work, praying for them as they drove by. If he knew you or knew of you, he prayed for you.
Lawson was born in Morgan County, Georgia and grew up in several small towns picking cotton as a share cropper’s son. Lawson built homes, owned Moosie’s Gulf station in Atlanta, and was the finest repair man to be found. Even in his retirement, Lawson stayed busy as he “raised” his granddaughter Bailey, served in his church, grew amazing tomatoes, cut his lawn to perfection, made chicken and dumplings for anyone that was sick or hurting, and was a handy man to friends and family.
Lawson is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents - Melvin and Mabel Moss; brothers - Lawrence and James Moss; parents-in-law Clyatt and Frankie Rousey; and brothers-in-law Keith and Bryson Rousey and Jake Fish. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 60 years, Rebecca; his children, Richard and Jamie Moss and Scarlett and Harold Temple; grandchildren Dalton (Christina), Lincoln, Blake, Lawson, and Bailey, siblings Dianne Moss, Joyce and Allen Dunn, Geneva and David Copeland, Joan Fish, Ricky and Jean Moss, and Nathan Moss; sisters-in-law Judy and Ray Dobelman and Connie Rousey, as well as many beloved nephews and nieces.
Funeral services for Mr. Moss will be held at 11 o’clock Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 227 Hwy 229, Social Circle, GA 30025 with Richard Moss and Pastor Brandon Stanley officiating. The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. J.C.
