Charles D. Dunaway

Mr. Charles D. Dunaway, age 67 of Stockbridge, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 18, 2023. He was born on June 26, 1956 in Atlanta to Demester E. and Willie Mae Dunaway who have both preceded him in death. Mr. Dunaway grew up in Ellenwood and graduated from Morrow High School. He retired in 2009 from Marta after over 30 years of service as a bus maintenance mechanic. Mr. Dunaway was an avid fisherman and bowler. He used his talents to restore vehicles and antique furniture. Mr. Dunaway also enjoyed watching drag racing and NASCAR. He was a dedicated member of Gum Creek Presbyterian Church and served two terms as an elder.

Mr. Dunaway is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Betsy Dunaway; his sisters Joan Murphy (Tom) and Jan Dunaway; his nephews Michael Thomas Murphy and Jeffrey Glen Murphy; his niece Alexis Lynn Powers; his mother-in-law Charlotte H. Hood and his sister-in-law Nancy A. Hood.

Funeral Service for Mr. Dunaway will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 1 o’clock in the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Reverend Bobbie Wren Banks and Reverend Becky Baker officiating. Visitation will be Monday, November 27, 2023 from 5 PM to 8 PM at J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home. Interment at Lawnwood Memorial Park following the funeral service. To honor the special relationship seen throughout his entire life that Charles had with children and those with special needs, the family is requesting in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Thornwell Home for Children: Attn: Tiffany Massey 302 South Broad Street Clinton, SC 29325-9972.
