Charles "Ron" Ronald Avret

Mr. Charles Ronald “Ron” Avret, age 76, of Mansfield passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020.  He was born in Sylvania, Georgia on March 24, 1943 to Charles and Estelle Avret who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Avret grew up in Sylvania and was a 1961 graduate of Screven County High School where he excelled at basketball.  Following high school Mr. Avret went on to Georgia Southern University playing basketball on a scholarship.  He graduated from Georgia Southern in 1965 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. 

Mr. Avret served in the United States Air Force Reserves for 7 years.  He was very active in his community, while living in Vidalia he was a member of the Rotary Club, he served on the hospital board of Meadows Memorial Hospital, and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed serving others and loved to play golf.  Mr. Avret was most recently a member of Mansfield United Methodist Church.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Joe Avret and Jerry Avret.

Mr. Avret is survived by his wife Kathy Watts-Avret of Mansfield, his daughters Lari Avret Swinney of Cartersville and Suzi Avret of Vidalia, his grandchildren Jessica Swinney and Paul Swinney, his sisters JoAnn Alloways and her husband Emory of Sylvania and Charlotte Lambert also of Sylvania, and his constant companion “Maggie”.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and close friends. 

Funeral services for Mr. Avret will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, 202 Ennis Street, Sylvania, GA 30467.  Interment will follow at Screven Memorial Park.  The family will first receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 23, 2020 at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home, 2157 East Street S.E., Covington, GA 30014 and then from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to The MDS Foundation 4573 South Broad St., Suite 150 Yardville, NJ 08620 or to the Serenity House, 10102 Old Atlanta Hwy, Covington, GA 30014.  The family has selected J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home to assist them with the arrangements in Covington and Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home to assist them with the arrangements in Sylvania, GA 30467.  A guest book may be signed on-line www.harwellfuneralhome.com.
