Dan Evans Obituary

Mr. Dan Garey Evans, known affectionately to friends and family as Garey, passed away on his 89th birthday, March 28, 2025. Born on the same date in 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Garey was married for 28 years to Marian Johnston Evans who has preceded him in death. Garey and Marian had two beautiful daughters Ann Spencer (David) and Leigh Hays (Bobby) who survive him. He was a grandfather to August, Ian, Jack, and Elias, who will carry forward the wisdom and the warmth he imparted upon them. Garey later fell in love again and married Marie Kandybowski Evans for 26 years who has also preceded him in death. The son of the late Reba Garey Evans and Dan Philpot Evans, Garey grew up in Madisonville, Kentucky where he inherited a sense of determination and kindness that he carried throughout his life alongside his brother Dwain Evans (Leeann) who remain to cherish his memory.

Garey's professional life was largely dedicated to the oil industry, where he made his mark as a respected salesman. Upon retirement, Garey moved to Cedar Key, Florida, where he enjoyed a slower pace of life closer to nature and his beloved pastimes. A man of diverse interests, Garey followed the stock market with a keen eye and was an ardent fan of luxury cars. His passion for fishing and boating was well-known among his peers, as was his love for the University of Kentucky basketball team.
