David Wayne Young, Sr.

Mr. David Wayne Young, Sr., age 76, of Shady Dale passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.  He was born October 29, 1946 in Decatur to Thomas James and Irene Edwards Young who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Young was in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.  He worked in sales for Colgate-Palmolive.  Mr. Young enjoyed hunting, watching football and especially the Georgia Bulldogs.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kay Ritchey Young.

He is survived by his children David Wayne Young, II. (Heidi) of Pikeville, TN, James Nathan Young of Shady Dale, GA, Josh Adam Young (Jessy Minosky) of Monticello, GA and his “adopted” son Joe Powell; grandchildren Jacob Young (Becca) of Chattanooga, TN, Riley Young (Chloe Bridenstine) of Chattanooga, TN, Madison Young of Shady Dale, GA, Tucker Young of Shady Dale, GA, Jackson Young of Shady Dale, GA, Keith Kirby, Jr. of Monticello, GA and Kaylen Young of Monticello, GA; brothers Thomas Young and Phillip Young; sisters Judy Thompson and Connie McWilliams, along with other family members, and close friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Young will be held at 12 o’clock Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Sorrells officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge, Georgia.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.  J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
