Dorothy Wages Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Willis Wages passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on January 27, 2020.  She was 85 years old. Born July 25, 1934 in Des Arc, Arkansas, she was the youngest daughter of the late O.C. “Pappy” Willis and Stella Ellis Willis.  Her devoted husband of 44 years, Clifton Chandler Wages, preceded her in death as well as her infant granddaughter, Kristin Leonore Wages.  Also preceding her in death were her beloved siblings:  Vera Donahue, Virginia Willis, Buford Willis, Orville Edward Willis and Doris Lakey.

Her ancestors were pioneers in the settling of lands across the Mississippi River; she emulated that pioneer spirit throughout her life.  She was a strong and courageous woman — as a military wife for 26 years, she was the defender of home and hearth.  Dorothy had a special talent for growing flowers, vegetables, or fruits.  She could sew beautifully, crochet, knit, and make quilts. Dorothy had a passion for nature; she loved to watch the “hummers” visit her feeders and listen to the birds sing.  Dorothy especially loved her niece, Janie Ellis, who was her best friend and “sister” along with her cherished nephew, Jimmy Irby.

Dorothy is survived by her three children and their spouses: Tony and Melva Wages, Joy and Lee Meadors, and Ginger and Melody Wages, her grandchildren: Meghan Wages, Jack and his wife Rene Meadors, Caroline Meadors, her step grandchildren: Maria and Joe Carlock, Matt and Emily Dedecker, Rachel Dedecker and Eric Pfeifer: her step great-grandchildren: Maddox and Mason Carlock, and Hazel Olivia Pfeifer.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, 2020, from 3 PM until 5 PM at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.  A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.  The family has selected J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home to assist them with the arrangements.  A guest book may be signed on-line www.harwellfuneralhome.com.
