Douglas Bruce Mangum Obituary
Douglas Bruce Mangum, 66, of Monroe, GA passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Born in Chula Vista, CA, Doug was an avid nature enthusiast and loved every moment as it came. He retired from the Georgia Department of Public Safety after his many years in the budget department. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Mangum, her two sons Josh and Jacob Stegall, and his two children, Billy and Caroline Mangum. Doug cherished his time with his precious granddaughter Georgia and found happiness in the simplest of things including his time with Finn and Dixie.
Doug is survived by his mother, Carol Rushing (John), father, Bill Mangum (Mylle), Uncle Riley and Aunt Mona and her daughter Mandy, and his brother Chase Neely (Cynthia) and son Christopher, who love him dearly and will always remember his infectious laugh and big heart. Additional family that will miss him dearly include nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends throughout the US.
Doug loved his time at home and exploring new hobbies with Jennifer, while finding any reason to be outdoors or relaxing or reading. An avid sports fan, he still held on to his love for the Bulldogs, Braves and Falcons. Doug loved his children unconditionally and was the first one to brag about their accomplishments. He loved his daily walks with Finn and Dixie and Jennifer and always cherished every second with everyone he loved. His laugh would fill a room as he emphatically recapped a story or just wanted put a smile on everyone’s face. He would often reminisce on his time fishing or hunting and his many years as coach of whatever sport was next for Billy or Caroline. Doug embraced his retirement with a sense of adventure and cherished every moment with Jennifer, Josh and Jacob and his time with his son Billy, daughter Caroline and granddaughter Georgia. His family has comfort knowing that he is taking daily walks with his beloved George.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home. Immediately followed by a memorial service. J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these services.
