Evelyn Huwe Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Fay Huwe, age 88, of Oxford, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. She was born on May 30, 1937, and grew up in Princeton, West Virginia. There she worked for a time in Wyandotte, Michigan and then moved to Minot, North Dakota to attend Northwest Bible College. It was there that Evelyn met Franklin Huwe. They were married on August 6, 1960, and made their home in Minot. She received an associate of arts degree from Northwest Bible College and was employed there for a number of years. Evelyn was privileged to assist Franklin in his various educational pursuits, his ministerial calling and numerous vocational accomplishments.

Evelyn is survived by her three children, Marshall Franklin, Yolonda Joy and Matthew David were all born and grew up in Minot. They were truly her pride and joy. Evelyn loved and respected each one of her children very much. She is also survived by her four grandchildren; Alyssa and Kianna, daughters of Marshall and Pamela (James) Huwe and McKenzie and Micah, sons of Bill and Yolonda (Huwe) Watterson are wonderful and precious to her. Evelyn believed that there is no greater responsibility than that given to a mother to raise her children in the fear and admonition of our Lord Jesus Christ. Evelyn’s greatest joy was to know that they love and serve our Lord. She considered it her great responsibility and privilege to pray for her family and to call their names before our Lord every day. Evelyn is survived by her siblings, Aubrey Walters, Clarence Walters, Erie Walters, and Wanda Nikitenko. She is preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Walters and her sisters, Deon Shrewsbury and Edna Cahill.

She was employed as Dean of Women for Northwest Bible College and various other responsibilities. In addition, she worked for Minot Super Value stores, Minot YWCA, and the Children’s Home Society of Minnesota.

Evelyn was honored by her peers in being selected as Miss Northwest Bible College and also was privileged to be on the president’s honor roll while attending college. Later, she served the college as president and advisor to the college student wives club.

Evelyn was a lifetime member of The Church of God and supported her husband in his many responsibilities at Northwest Bible College, including his presidency, and his 23 years as Pastor of The Antler Community Church.

One of Evelyn’s personal satisfactions came from having the privilege of developing themes and decorating for many banquets, social functions and special occasions throughout the years. Her favorite flower is the rose and her favorite bird is the hummingbird. Evelyn’s favorite passage of scripture is the 91st Psalm. She attempted to read it almost every day of her adult life. She especially loved Psalm 91:2, “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”

Evelyn and Franklin moved to Oxford, Georgia in 2013 so that they could spend more time with their children and grandchildren. They were delighted in attending their many school functions, including band and athletic events. While in Georgia, she was also honored to serve with her husband as care-pastors for the local “Church at Covington”.
