Gary Price Obituary

Mr. Gary Bertric Price, age 76, passed away on January 6, 2026. He was born on September 25, 1949, in Porterdale, GA. He had a love for his family, friends, and the USMC like no other person. He created amazing stucco, rock, and stone jobs over several states and built astonishing log homes using his sawmills. The adventures of his life took him all over the world hunting and capturing record book entries for his animals, being on TV shows, magazines, books and a local school program.

Gary (known as crazy in USMC) was a very determined Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. While only serving one day shy of thirteen months while in Vietnam. He escalated to Corporal and fought in eleven major battles with at least three being hand to hand combat. Unfortunately, he was shot five times, and for his outstanding service to his country, earned an extensive number of medals. The medals are three Purple Hearts, Navy USMC Achievement with Gold V, National Defense, Vietnam Service, RVN Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Defense, Navy USMC Commendation, TET Campaign, USMC Good Conduct, USMC Service, Meritorious Unit with two Bronze Stars, Meritorious Unit, Combat Action, USMC Presidential Unit, Unit Commendation, and Presidential Unit Commendation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Juritta Price of Porterdale; siblings, Retter Sue Price (Keith) Bailey of Blairsville, Timmy Glenn Price of Covington; in-laws Lavonia and Wayne Blackmon of Monticello; stepson, Garrett Lee Barnett of Monticello. Gary is survived by his wife and best friend Sherry where they lived and called Purple Heart Hill in Monticello; stepson, Austin (Ashley) Barnett of Benbrook, TX.; siblings, Randy (Rita) Price of Oxford, Gayle (Ricky) Walden of Greensboro, Tammy (Hank) Holder of Peachtree City; sister-in-law, Kandy Price of Covington; brother-in-law, Ron (Eunice) Blackmon of Monticello, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and close friends.

A Funeral Service for Gary will be at 11 o’clock on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Julia A. Porter Church located in Portedale, with Reverend Roger Cato and Reverend Rick Walden officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home.
