Gary "Garpy" Chambers

Mr. Gary “Garpy” Chambers, age 71, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away Friday, April 26, 2024.  He was born in Covington on September 13, 1952 to Lanier and Martha Dial Chambers who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Chambers grew up in Covington and was a graduate of Newton High School.  He was an excellent landscaper and grader and took great pride in his work owning and operating “Garpy and Sons Landscaping” for many years. Garpy enjoyed fishing and fast cars; but nothing made him happier than making others happy especially his family and to Garpy that was everyone he met.  He was Baptist by faith and a member of Canaan Baptist Church.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son Kenny Chambers and his brother Andy Chambers.

Mr. Chambers is survived by his son Todd Chambers of Covington; his daughter-in-law Alanna Chambers of Oxford; his grandchildren Alyssa, Javen, Chloe, and Reese; his great grandchildren Nevaeh and Eli; his sister Gail Smith (Dennis) of Covington; his sister-in-law Cathy Chambers of Covington; along with a host of other family members and many close friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 o’clock Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Watson officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Friday prior to the service. A private inurnment service will be held at a later time.
