Mr. George W. Hart, Jr., age 73, a long time resident and business owner in Covington, passed away on September 24, 2019. He was born July 16, 1946 in West Point, GA to George W. and Alma Stewart Hart. Mr. Hart’s childhood was spent in both Columbus and Griffin, GA. He attended Griffin High School and completed his high school education at Oxford College of Emory University. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA followed by an MBA. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order.
Mr. Hart was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carol Ann Hart Gavin. He is survived by his wife Mary Jon Barnes Hart, son George W. Hart, III (Trudy) of Atlanta, daughter Brantley Hart Hodges (Jim) of Shreveport, LA, his grandchildren, George W. Hart, IV, Caroline Ewing Hart, John Wilson Hart, Maggie Belle Hodges and Mollie Stewart Hodges, his brother in law Charles E. Gavin, III of Wartrace, TN and sister in law Sue Ann Barnes Jones of Ft. Payne, AL along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Hart will be held at 11 o’clock, Saturday, September 28, 2019 in the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with The Reverend Father Edwin Beckham officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to the Salvation Army at www.salvationarmyusa.org. J.C.
