Geraldine (Barnes) Cargile

Mrs. Geraldine Cargile, age 89, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024.  She was born April 9, 1934, in Covington to Leonard and Mattie Kate Barnes who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Cargile grew up in the Covington Mill Community and worked for the Georgia Forestry Commission.  She was an avid reader, she enjoyed being outdoors going on walks and working around her home.  Mrs. Cargile was Baptist by faith and a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.  Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Grady Cargile.

Mrs. Cargile is survived by her son Zack D. Cargile of Covington; her grandsons Daniel Cargile, and Trevor Cargile both of Covington; her great grandchildren Harley, Ian, Aidan, and Ashlyn; her brother Ronnie Barnes (Linda) of Lawrenceville, and Nathan Barnes (Betty Ann) of Conyers; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cargile will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Swann officiating.  Entombment will follow at New Covington Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service.
