Mr. Johnston, age 84, of Covington passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023. He was born on July 27, 1938 to Troy and Annie Johnston who have preceded him in death. Hack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who loved generously. He was a graduate of Newton County High School where he lettered four years in baseball. Upon graduation of high school, Hack served four years in the United States Air Force. After serving, he began his career with Atlanta Gas Light while he also enjoyed being a referee and umpire for many sports. Hack played fast-pitch softball for the Porterdale Allstars for many years. He was an avid fishman and enjoyed being by the water in his spare time. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mavis Johnston, Rachel Plymel, Myrtle Henderson, Charlotte Lawson; brothers, Orell Johnston and Roy James Johnston.
Hack is survived by his loving wife Cynthia Johnston; son, Randy Johnston; grandchildren, Troy Johnston, Kristi Gilbert (Patrick), Allyssa Johnston, Ansley Johnston (Jeremy Thompson), and Jacob Johnston; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sara, Kay, Neal, and Gunner; siblings, Margaret Aaron, Gayle Marchman and Franklin Johnston (Dianne); many very loved and adored nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnston will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Reverend Ricky Bruce and Reverend Russell Repetske officiating. Interment will follow the service at Lawnwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
