James Holcombe

James E. Holcombe, Jr., of Tampa, Florida passed on May 9th, 2023, at the young age of 98.  Born February 19, 1925, to Father, James Ernest Holcombe, Sr, and Mother Elsie Ballard Holcombe.  Jim was born in Woolsey GA., and raised in and around Covington, GA. He put himself through the University of GA in 3 ½ years finishing with Business Administration bachelor’s degree. He joined the US Navy in 1943 and proudly served his country for 27 years.  During that time, he received his master’s degree in Hospital Administration.  When retiring from the Navy in 1971, he moved to Florida to be the administrator of a 174 Bed extended care facility, Medi-Center of Tampa. Jim was an avid golfer and bowler.   After retirement, Jim spent a lot of time gardening on property at his North Georgia home and gardening at his Florida home.   He loved fresh vegetables and gardening was certainly a passion of his. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Coleen Mullinex Holcombe, his brother Floyd Holcombe, brother Frank Holcombe, Niece Debbie Holcombe.

Jim is survived by his three sons; Wally Holcombe (Bev), Steve Holcombe (Cindy), and Gary Holcombe (Jackie); his brothers Clifford Holcombe, Ralph Holcombe, and John Holcombe (Jane); his sister Mary Jordan (Roger); along with 6 grandchildren, 2 two great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 3 o’clock Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Budensiek officiating.  Interment will follow at Salem Historical Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Friday prior to the service.
