Mr. James “J.L.” Bailey always known as Spud, age 82, of Covington, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Spud was born on April 2, 1942, to Chester and Margaret Bailey who have preceded him in death. J.L. grew up in Covington and was a graduate of Newton County High School. He loves his family and adores his wife, Delbra Bailey of 46 years. J.L. enjoys fishing and attending and watching racing. He was an active faithful member of Red Oak United Methodist Church since he was a young boy. J.L. was a member and treasurer of the Men’s Club at church. J.L. retired after a long career of over 45 years at Lithonia Lighting. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
J.L. is survived by his wife Delbra; children, Jennifer Mercer and her husband Brad, Casey Williams and her husband Randy; grandchildren, Brooklyn Jackson and her husband Kenneth, Jacob Cheek and his fiance Courtney, Krista Mercer, Lexi Williams and her fiance Tom Kirkpatrick, a host of great grandchildren along with other family members and close friends.
A Memorial Service for J.L. will at 3 o’clock Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Red Oak United Methodist Church with Pastor Andy Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at the church prior to the service.
