Jan Anderson Obituary

Jan Hicks Anderson, 68, of Covington, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 surrounded by her family.  Melanie Jan was born on October 12, 1954 in Columbus, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late L.C. and Martha Smith Hicks. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Roy Leland Anderson and a baby sister, Marsha Lynn Hicks. She is survived by her loving sons Kevin Anderson (Pam) and Blake Anderson (Laurie) of Covington; her sister Carole Wintle (Jack) of Lakemont, Georgia and her brother Len Hicks (Lana – who was a true sister) of Lancaster, South Carolina; grandchildren, all of who were treasures to her; Kylie, Amelia, Noel, Maggie and Kaydence; nieces and nephews Tracy Lagedrost (who was more than a niece to her), Greg Farr (Julie) and Chris Hicks (Teresa) and several great nieces and nephews. She treasured her relationship with Jessica Anderson and Mellissa Anderson. She leaves behind her cousin and best friend, Susan Garbow, who shared many late-night calls, her dear neighbor of 12 years, Carol Collins, who was a Godsend, and her loving cats, who gave her so much comfort.

Jan made many friends through the years through Church, work and activities of the boys and grandchildren. She loved playing games with the boys and later with the grandkids. She loved scrabble and jigsaw puzzles. She loved and looked forward to the ball games, recitals, and especially the afternoons after school with Maggie and Kaydence. She and Roy loved camping with Carole, Jack, Len and Lana and just being with each other. She was an avid reader, knitter, anything crafting and what a cook! Oh, and could she clean! No dust on her floor!

Jan always had a smile, her hair fixed, her nails polished and very nicely dressed. Except when she was around 3 and would take her clothes off, leave them in a pile and run around the yard. Jan spent 32 years in a wheelchair from a car accident. The Doctors said she wouldn’t make it through the night, but our feisty red headed girl showed them! She spent months in the hospital and came home to raise her boys, to love her husband and her family. She has shown courage, gratefulness, kindness, strength, and true Faith in her life. We can only envision her with her beloved Roy and that brings smiles. That sweet little red-haired baby lived her life with all the determination that red hair could bring. She will be missed always.
