Jane Parker Obituary

This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family

Mrs. Martha Jane Reagan Parker, age 85, of Oxford, Georgia, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025.

She was born in Covington, Georgia and lived her entire life in the Gum Creek community in Newton County. Her husband, Wendell L. Parker preceded her in death as well as her parents Irene Isabelle and Johnie Steve Reagan. Her sister and brother-in-law, Julian and Johnnie Kathryn Kitchens, brother, Bobby Reagan and niece and husband Sandra and Fred Christian have also preceded her in death.

Jane graduated from Newton County High School with honors. She was a lifelong member of Gum Creek Presbyterian Church where she served in a number of leadership roles. She was a charter member of The Presbyterian Women, established in 1964, church treasurer, church secretary, elder, and pastor search committee member. She began her working career at the Bank of Covington following her graduation. In 1969 she began working at the Presbyterian Center in Atlanta eventually being promoted to Assistant VP of the Group Life and Major Medical Plan.

Later, Jane worked alongside her husband Wendell in managing his construction business.

Jane loved her family and spent many enjoyable days with her host of nieces and nephews and extended family. She loved history and took great pride in helping to explore and record the genealogy of her family even traveling to the northeastern U.S. to gather information. She and Wendell took a number of trips that they fondly recalled including trips to Hawaii and Jamaica. They also enjoyed traveling with her sister Johnnie Kathryn and her husband Julian Kitchens.

Jane relished her association with the Covington Women’s Club and served in several capacities during her time as a member. She was a very generous person and was always willing to assist with local charities such as the Salvation Army and church related charities such as the Thornwell Children’s Home.

Being a native Newton Countian was very important to Jane, and she enjoyed sharing memories along with Wendell about their childhood in Covington. She was instrumental in compiling the Bostwick Family History for the Newton County History Book. Being loyal to local businesses in Covington was of utmost importance to Jane and she loved shopping on the Square over the years at shops like the R&L Shop, Cohen’s, Sherwood’s and many others.

A cup of coffee and a shared conversation were some of the things many will remember about Jane as we celebrate her life.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Lori Clifton (Derek) and sons James and Ben. Mr. Todd Christian (Hannah) and daughters Marlee and Londyn, Mr. Mark Reagan (Lynda) and daughters Courtney Kerlin (Ben) and children Avery and William, Mrs. Hannah Tanner (Clint) and son George, Mr. Steve Reagan (Wanda) and daughter Stephanie and son Jacob Reagan (Carlynn) and daughters Nora and Emery, sister-in-law Martha Reagan, stepson Lee Parker (Susan) and children Kaine Parker, Zack Parker, Matthew (Sara) Parker and grandchildren Abigail, Emily and Allison and a number of other nieces and nephews.
