Janelle Gibbs

Mrs. Janelle Gibbs, age 88, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Born on April 4, 1937, in Porterdale, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lonnie and Marie Guthrie. Janelle will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to her family, and her lifelong passion for caring for others. She found joy in her kitchen, where her delicious meals brought loved ones together, and she delighted in music and dancing, always lighting up a room with her infectious smile.

Janelle was preceded in death by her cherished daughter, Lynn Gibbs, as well as her parents. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Joy Cole (Allen), Dawn Berkhan (Michael), and Marty Gibbs (Darla). She was a proud grandmother to Ryan Hurkmans, Hannah Berkhan, Haley Hurkmans, Cody Berkhan, Emily Geren, Sarah Mann, Melissa Wyche, and Josh Scott, and a doting great-grandmother to Jerrell, Brently, Jianni, Lawson, Easton, Camp, Hudson, Collins, Cooper, Alice, and Spencer. Janelle is also survived by her brother, Phillip Guthrie, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services honoring Janelle’s life will take place at 11 o’clock on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Andrew Pasedag officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. Those serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Hurkmans, Cody Berkhan, Brently Irvin, Scot Hodges, Danny Davis, and Tommy Davis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Janelle’s warmth, compassion, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
