Mr. Jerry Lee Day, age 76, passed away on January 3, 2025, at his home in Covington, Georgia. Jerry was born in Clarkston, Georgia, on March 18, 1948, but moved to Newton County in 1963. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Otis Lee Day and Dorene Stegall Day, as well as his beloved sister, Beverly Day Hicks.
Jerry was a 1966 graduate of Newton County High School, where his future wife, Nancy Mask, also attended. Nancy and Jerry were married for 54 years. Jerry was a long-time member of Lovejoy United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, taught youth and adult Sunday School classes and served on many committees. He especially enjoyed listening to piano music provided by Nancy. In the immediate past, Jerry attended Julia A. Porter Church.
Jerry was an avid UGA football fan and was a loyal and staunch Braves fan. Having played football in high school, he had many tales to share about the “Rams” and the time spent teasing and aggravating his baby sister, Beverly. Jerry was an excellent conversationalist and skilled salesperson. He was retired from Mobil Chemical after a long career.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Jillian Nan Moody (Kyle); sister Tonya Giles; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Allen Mask. His chosen grandchildren are Katelyn Moody Mistretta (Logan) and Logan Moody. Katelyn and Logan Mistretta gave Jerry his first-great-grandchild, Olive. Not to be forgotten are Jerry’s beloved furry friends: Izzie, Charlie, and Lucy.
