Mr. Jim Maxwell, age 61, of Covington passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023. He was born on October 9, 1962 in Washington, Georgia to James E. Maxwell, Jr. and Minan Blanchard Maxwell. He was a lifelong Georgian with deep roots. Jim grew up in Washington and graduated from Wilkes Academy. He continued his education at the University of Georgia graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Jim began his career in the banking industry in the 1980’s working in both retail and commercial levels at several financial institutions. He also dabbled in sales in the early 1990’s before embarking on successful construction ventures that spanned 25 years. In the past several years he has worked as a real estate appraiser around Atlanta and Covington. Jim loved to play golf and would attend any and all tournaments he could. He was an avid fan and longtime season ticket holder of the University of Georgia Bulldogs Football team. Jim was a lifelong learner and enjoyed studying his family’s genealogy and history. He was also a proud member of the Covington Historical Society. Jim was preceded in death by his father James E. Maxwell, Jr., and his sister Laurie Maxwell Gowen.
Mr. Maxwell is survived by his mother Minan B. Maxwell of Covington; his sister Jere Lin Maxwell Hutter (Bruce) of Covington; his brother John Maxwell (Shanna) of Covington; his nieces and nephews Wes, Julia, Kate (Tyler), Grant, Gavin, and Maddie; close family friends Cliff, Jennifer, and Makenna Bratcher; along with numerous other family members and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4 o’clock Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wesley Methodist Church, P.O. Box 245, Covington, GA 30015.
