Mr. Jimmy “Jimbo” Gunnells, age 61 of Mansfield passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022. He was born September 29, 1961 in Anniston, Alabama to James and Sara Gunnells who have preceded him in death. Jimmy grew up in Lithonia and graduated from Lithonia High School in 1980. He was an electrician and member of IBEW Local 613. Jimmy was a hardworking man who loved his family and especially loved his grandchildren. He was a “Roll Tide” Alabama Football Fan, he enjoyed fishing, John Wayne movies, listening to Johnny Cash, and drinking cold beer. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Zonda Christopher.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Rhonda Gunnells; his children Matthew Gunnells of Mansfield, Travis Gunnells (Callie) of Columbus, Mississippi, and Baylee Gunnells of Mansfield; his grandchildren Peyton, Jaxon, Lily, and Jonesy; his sisters Debra Thacker and Leatha Evans; and a host of other family and close friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Gunnells will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at New Covington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
