Mr. Joe Edward Loyd, age 75, passed away on October 10, 2024. He spent his life spreading joy and working on cars - not necessarily in that order. Born on April 7, 1949, in Porterdale, GA., Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was the kind of man who could brighten any room with his presence, and his laughter was as contagious as his love for life. He spent most of his day in Covington, Georgia, tinkering away under the hood of a car at Puddy's shop or working at the pool chemical company, Biolab.
Joe, a decorated sergeant in the United States Army, was a shining example of dedication and bravery. His medals, including a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC Air Medal, were reminders of his service. He was equally devoted to his civilian career, transitioning from Mobil Chemical to Biolab.
Joe was married to his beautiful wife of 35 years Judy Loyd, and together they raised three wonderful daughters, Diamond Loyd, Traci Pierce, and Tammy James who survives him along with Tammy's husband Anthony. He was a doting grandfather to Cash, Ava, and Kristen Smith who later married Tyler, and even had the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to Easton and Emma. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Loyd and sister Barbara Reagan. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Flora Loyd, sisters Linda Durden, Faye Womack and brother Ricky Loyd.
Joe's Life was a testament to the power of love and laughter. He was committed to his work as he was to his family, having worked for Mobil Chemical before moving to Biolab. But his true passion was always found in the garage, under a car, or at Puddy's shop, surrounded by friends and family.
A Funeral Service for Joe will be held at 2 o'clock on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Adams officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:00 until 2:00 prior to the service. In Keeping with Joe's own loving spirit, we encourage you to leave your favorite memories and upload photos of our beloved Joe to the memorial page. Let's remember him as he was a beacon of joy, love, and laughter.
