John Sutherland, age 41, of Covington, Georgia passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1983 to John Herbert “Herb” and Becky Sutherland. John is preceded in death by his father, Herb. He is survived by his mother, Becky, of Covington, his sister, Catharine Griffin and her husband David, his three nephews, James, Sam, and Caleb of Texas.
John attended Gordon College where he earned an associate’s degree and went on to graduate from the Atlanta School of Culinary Art where he proudly held the title as a certified chef.
John was a true believer in his Lord, his Church, his family, his country, and his friends. John served as President of the Men’s Club; but John did not define himself as a leader but as a servant. He was also a member of St. Andrews Society of Atlanta and a member of Burn’s Club of Atlanta. John was always the first to offer his help to anyone in need. He volunteered to help serve meals and often as an usher when needed.
John loved his family. He held a tight bond with his mother, Becky and his face would glow at the mention of his sister, Catharine and her family. John enjoyed playing uncle to his three nephews anytime they would visit from Texas.
John loved his family history. The Sutherlands are Scots. He and his father, Herb, would dress in their tartan kilts and join the festivities at the Stone Mountain Highland Games. John was also extremely knowledgeable in many areas including politics. He loved his country and was involved with the Republican Party in Covington. He was a regular worker in the elections held at his church, Red Oak. John was well versed and showed a vast interest in the history of his country.
John will be remembered for his love for the Lord and his family. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Red Oak United Methodist Church with Larry Bowers officiating. A reception will be held at the church in the fellowship hall after the service.
