John Wayne Maddox Obituary

Mr. John Wayne Maddox, age 72, a lifelong resident of Porterdale passed away at home on Monday, August 23, 2021.  He was at peace when he left for heaven; as he was surrounded by his loving wife and all three sons.  He was born May 19, 1949 at the Porterdale Hospital to Levie Alvin “Pop” and Maxie “Bubba” McClure Maddox; who have preceded him in death.

Mr. Maddox graduated from Newton County High School and Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church was his home Church.  To say John Wayne Maddox had a passion for Porterdale and the people of Newton County is an understatement; he helped to lead Porterdale just as it became a true City, developed multiple businesses, remodeled homes and commercial properties, and provided for the people of his community far more than will ever be known.  His love for Porterdale was only matched by his love and devotion to his wife and family.

Mr. Maddox loved his family and taught them all a strong work ethic.  He was not a man of many hobbies; however, if his children or grandchildren wanted to do it, he was all in.  A loving husband of 52 years, father, grandfather, soon to be great grandfather, brother, and friend he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by sisters Francis Vivian Maddox, Ina Faye Maddox Aiken, Betty Lou Maddox Shaw, Emily Joanne Maddox Knight, Eva Sharon Maddox; his brothers Lynwood Alvin Maddox, Jessie Cornelius Maddox, and David Newton Maddox.

Mr. Maddox is survived by his wife Vicki Herring Maddox, his sons and daughters-in-law John Wayne Maddox, Jr. and Sonya, Levie Allan Maddox and Tara, Anthony Jason Maddox and Nancy, grandchildren McKenzi Maddox Aguilar, Taylor Elizabeth Maddox, Levie Allan Maddox II, Lexi Shade Maddox, Maxie Chayce Maddox, Ripken Ty Maddox, Ansley Grace Maddox, and Hudson Grey Maddox; grandson-in- law Dustin Alfredo Aguilar; his siblings Gail
Maddox Lindsey, Glenda Maddox Austin, and Shirley Maddox Crawford along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Private services will be held at a later date.  At this time the family asks for privacy, your thoughts, prayers, and love for them; which are greatly appreciated.  J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home, TE Davis Funeral Services, 2157 East Street, SE, Covington, GA 30014.
