Joseph Edward Graves, Jr., a man of kindheartedness and remarkable handiness, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on December 16, 1955, in Blacksburg, Virginia, Joseph was the beloved son of the late Joseph Edward Sr. and Virginia Graves. His warm presence, thoughtful nature, and enthusiastic spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the fortune of knowing him.
Joseph graduated from Dekalb Technical College with an Associate's Degree, a stepping stone that led to his accomplished career as a mechanic. His love for fixing things was not limited to the garage; he was the quintessential handyman, always ready with the right tool and a helping hand. His work was not just his occupation, but a calling where he could combine his passion for problem-solving with a desire to help others.
Aside from his professional life, Joseph was an active and dedicated member of Faith Tabernacle in Conyers, where he cultivated many lifelong friendships and served his community with zeal. His passion for working on cars was paralleled only by his love for the green fairways, where he could be found unwinding and socializing while playing golf.
Joseph is survived by a loving family who was continuously inspired by his approach to life. He leaves behind his cherished son, Joseph Edward Graves, III; his caring stepchildren, John King, Jennifer Wright, Juliette Wiltshire, and Jamie Cutter; his siblings, Mary Bugg, Dean Graves, Joyce Winters, Roger Graves, Melissa Means, Malcolm Graves, and Gretchen Newman; and a host of step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family members. He was also a precious friend to many, all of whom will carry his memory forward like a beacon of warmth and generosity.
His relatives reflect on his life with admiration and gratitude, recalling how his influence shaped their lives for the better. As hands that once repaired engines and solved puzzles of all kinds now rest, his legacy as a kind, thoughtful, and handy man endures in the hearts he has touched.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered, and so Joseph Edward Graves, Jr., shall be, as a man who made a profound difference in his community and within every life he touched.
A funeral service for Mr. Graves will be held at 4 o’clock Monday, October 6, 2025 at Faith Tabernacle, 631 Ralph Road SE, Conyers, GA 30094 with Pastor Michael Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.
