Mrs. Judith Olive (Baggett) West, age 86, of Covington passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. She was born in Houston, Texas on May 6, 1937 to Lee Eugene Baggett and Ada C. (Baggett) McDuffie who have both preceded her in death. Judith was also preceded in death by her husband Dr. Doyle W. West, Jr.
Mrs. West grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated high school in Orlando, Florida. She attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida, where she studied as a music major. While attending college she met her husband, Doyle, to whom she was married for 65 years. Judith started her banking career in Mobile, Alabama as a secretary with First Federal Savings and Loan where she was awarded Secretary of the Year. After moving to East Point, Georgia, she worked for Fulton Federal Savings and Loan and advanced from her secretarial position to Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager in two of the Atlanta branches. From management Judith was promoted to a Corporate Loan Officer with Fulton Federal Savings and Loan and later worked for the Wells Fargo Bank as a Corporate Loan Officer where she retired her banking career. After moving to the Covington area, Mrs. West received her Doctorate of Theology from the Christian Life School of Theology, in Columbus, Georgia. She served as Chancelor of Christian Life School of Theology Covington Campus for many years. Judith was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Christian that spent countless hours helping those in need.
Mrs. West is survived by her two sons Ronald Eugene West (Becky) of Newnan, Georgia, and William Donald West (Sandy) of Wedowee, Alabama. Her grandchildren: Shannon West, Brad West, Jennifer Gustafson (Ken), and Lori Hamilton; her great grandchildren: Wyatt, Lily and Austin. Her unofficial adopted son Tommy Gordon, along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. West will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Dr. Jeaunett Schnupp officiating. Interment will follow the service at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM Monday prior to the service. J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
