Mr. Julian “Preacher” Kitchens, 99 of Oxford passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Mr. Kitchens was born in Jersey, GA on April 27, 1924 to Robert Woodson and Eula Lee Steele Kitchens who have preceded him in death. Mr. Kitchens loved watching the Atlanta Braves and most all Georgia sports teams. But what he loved most in life was spending time with his family and sharing his 99 years worth of wisdom over a good fish fry. He also enjoyed socializing, telling jokes and playing Bingo with his friends at The Benton House. Mr. Kitchens proudly served his country during World War II on a gunners ship in the United States Navy. Along with his parents, Mr. Kitchens is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mrs. Johnnie Kathryn Kitchens, his daughter and son in law Sandra and Fred Christian, several siblings and other family members.
Mr. Kitchens is survived by his grandchildren Todd Christian (Hannah) and Lori Clifton (Derek); great grandchildren Ben and James Clifton, and Marlee Kathryn Christian; sister Mogene Cawthon; several nieces and nephews, along with other family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Kitchens will be held at 2:30PM on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Kerry Duncan and Rev. Becky Baker officiating. Interment will follow the service at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00PM until 2:30PM prior to the service on Sunday.
