Kenneth Dial Obituary

This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Dial born May 25, 1946, passed away at the age of 79.

Wayne's life was a testimony of true loyalty and dedication to his family. He was married for 55 years to Deborah (Weathers). He was intensely loyal to his wife and looked after her wealthfare and health with diligence. He often lovingly referred to her as a "Doozy" and he was known to contribute often to her jewelry collection. They built a beautiful home together. Wayne was the father of one child, Amanda (Mandy). He was the homework helper, the reader, the moral compass, and the special breakfast maker in her childhood, and later, the staunch supporter, most trusted confidant, and worrying partner. Because Wayne loved history, architecture, music, and the art of learning something new, most vacations were filled with visits to historic sites, admiring vintage and classical architecture, and marveling at the craftsmanship of old. He loved classic cars and trucks and could recite details and facts of many as he explored them during car shows and museum visits. He enjoyed woodworking and made several handsome pieces of furniture and his grandchildren's outdoor playset. He also loved to draw and paint, enjoyed maintaining a well-manicured lawn, and restored two classic trucks during his retirement.

He adored his two grandchildren, Brecken and Braxton. His home was their second home. He never missed a sporting event, no matter how far away the games or the weather. During one of his grandson's losing football seasons, he said he always came hopeful, but knew he would always enjoy his time because of the fun Braxton had on the field. His granddaughter, Brecken, was always supported by his presence during her time on stage performing in musicals and plays. Granddaddy and Gram never missed a show, and they once rescheduled a planned vacation because it meant they would be out of town for her performance. Knowing the show would be recorded, he quietly said it wouldn't be the same and made different plans.

Wayne was a content person but strove for excellence and valued education. He lived on the same piece of land his entire life. When it became an option for him to seek new horizons, he was completely at peace to live as he always had close to family and in the familiar surroundings he had always known. Attending North Georgia College on scholarship, and then graduating from Georgia State, he obtained a degree in Business Finance and Management and later attended graduate school. He was driven to graduate after his education had been derailed by serving in the National Guard during the Vietnam era, telling others it was important to finish what you start. He enjoyed his job and provided well for his family. He retired as Vice President of John L. Underwood Company after more than thirty years of service.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Deborah, his daughter, Mandy (Bruce) Watts, and grandchildren, Brecken and Braxton Watts, as well as his brother, Steve (Brenda) Dial, and several nieces, nephews, good friends, sister-in-law, Lynn Dial, and brother-in-law, Burton Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary Lou Dial, his brothers, Stanley and Jackie Dial, and his sister, Dianne Brown. His family rests in the hope of salvation that he is in a peaceful state of rest in the Lord, where his shoes are always polished and his collar is always crisp.
