Kenneth "Ken" Wilkerson Obituary

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Wilkerson left this world for his heavenly home on November 22, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on October 5, 1950, Ken's life was characterized by his unwavering faith, his dedication to his loved ones, and his generous spirit.

Ken's commitment to his family was unparalleled. He was a loving husband to Cathy Wilkerson for nearly 46 years, a role he cherished deeply. A proud father, he leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in his children, Kimberly Gutierrez and her husband Ryan, Brandon, Nathan, and Kevin Wilkerson. The joy of his life was further multiplied by his grandchildren, Andrew and Makayla Gutierrez, Cody and Autumn Wilkerson, and his great-grandson, Stetson Gutierrez. Ken's siblings, Monteal and Dale Wilkerson, will fondly remember their brother's heartwarming presence, as will his numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Clara Wilkerson, and his brother Tommy Wilkerson.

A man who personified hard work and dedication, Ken devoted 30 years to Dekalb County schools, from which he retired with a multitude of accolades from his colleagues. His work ethic was legendary; often holding down three jobs, Ken's sole purpose was to ensure the wellbeing and comfort of his family.

Ken's faith was the cornerstone of his existence. A faithful Christian, he lived his life as a testament to his beliefs. His passion for scripture was evident in his involvement in Bible quizzing, where he proudly claimed the state championship title multiple times. Ken’s role as a prayer warrior was a source of strength and inspiration for many as well as his other roles as security and an usher.

To know Ken was to know a man who never met a stranger. His selfless nature meant he was always more concerned with the welfare of others than of his own. His ability to fix anything was nothing short of remarkable. He was self-taught in many trades and was often sought after by many for his advice and knowledge, a testament to his skill and willingness to help.

Ken's interests were as varied as they were heartwarming. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace in fishing and hunting. His sense of humor was infectious, and as a known jokester, he could light up any room with laughter. A fan of the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and Falcons, Ken's enthusiasm for his teams was contagious. Even in his final days, his sharp mind and excellent memory remained intact, a feature of his character that amazed all who knew him.
