Larry James Johnston, age 84, of Covington formerly of Fayetteville passed away on May 19, 2026. He was born on July 26, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness.

Larry spent 52 years working as a truck driver, a career that reflected his strong work ethic, steady determination, and dependable nature. He took pride in his work and in the many miles he traveled over the years. Those who knew him understood that he was a man who valued responsibility, kept his word, and met life with quiet strength.

Outside of work, Larry enjoyed fishing, admiring muscle cars, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. These interests brought him relaxation and enjoyment, and they were part of the personality that family and friends will remember with affection. He appreciated the outdoors, the beauty of classic automobiles, and the excitement of baseball, especially when it involved his beloved Braves.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Ruth Johnston; his brother, Dennis Johnston; and his sisters, Carol Tapley and Linda Curry. Their memories remained an important part of his life, and he carried the love of his family with him throughout his years.

He is survived by his children, Lauri Johnston Clark and her husband Joe, Jacqui Ledbetter Watson and her husband Tim, and Theresa Cross Smith. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Richie, Kale, Shelby, Benjamin, and Phillip; his great-grandchildren, Camden, Anderson, Kori, Kaylin, Kyrsten, Nathan, and Baylee; his sister, Debbie Johnston Daniel; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and close friends who will cherish his memory.

A memorial service will be held at 3 o’clock on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Almon Baptist Church, 122 Almon Road, Covington, GA 30014 with Pastor Matt Bruce officiating.  The family will gather with friends from 2:00 PM until service at the church prior to the service.
