Leon Scrub Walton Jr., 65, of Newton County, Georgia, passed away on December 12, 2024. Born November 9, 1959, in Alice, Texas, he was raised and lived his life in Newton County.
Leon was born to Leon Scrub Walton Sr. and Shirley Jeanette Payne
Leon was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Pastor J.T. and Eddie Mae Payne, who instilled in him a deep love for faith, family, and integrity. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Sarae Wiggins Walton; his children, Leon Scrub Walton III “Traie” (Alicia, daughter Rhianna), Pastor Brandon Walton (Cassie, daughter Savannah and son Leland), and Melissa Cason (son Landyn); his brother, Tommy Walton Sr. (Marisa); and many nieces and nephews.
Leon founded Old South Traditional Fencing in 1994, taking pride in working alongside his family. A talented musician, he released Firm Foundation in 2006 and was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. Above all, he loved Jesus Christ and lived a life of faith, describing it as “living right.”
Leon cherished time with his family, often saying, “Look at our kids. We did good.” His nearly five-decade love story with Sarae set a powerful example of true devotion and love.
A celebration of his life will be held on December 16, 2024, at 4 o'clock at Central Church in Covington, Georgia, with Pastor Darrell Allen officiating and a eulogy by Pastor Brandon Walton of Bible Fellowship Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bible Fellowship Church, 190 Old Phoenix Rd., Eatonton, GA 31024. The family will gather with friends from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM prior to the service.
Leon will be remembered for his faith, love for family, and lasting impact on everyone he met.
